Which statement is the difference between sexual and asexual reproduction?
a regeneration) is exclusive sexual reproduction; b) sexual reproduction produces more offspring c) sexual reproduction includes the development of unfertilized eggs; d) sexual reproduction is more likely to increase genetic variation than is asexual reproduction, e) reproduce asexually always increase the number of sets of chromosomes in the progeny whereas sexual reproduction decreases the number of sets of chromosomes in the progeny.
In asexual reproduction, body itself essentially clones. The genetic material of the offspring is identical to the genetic material of the parent, and one of parents is necessary. The best example is the reproduction of unicellular organisms or "inform" organisms such as amoebas – the cell splits in two. Each new cell is identical. In sexual reproduction, two parents are needed. Half the genetic material needed to produce offspring just a parent, and half of another. In sexual reproduction between hermaphrodites (animals such as slugs and snails which have both male and female sexual organs) with semen exchange. Each fertilizes another. In "normal" sexual reproduction, the male impregnates the female by placing sperm inside her. In the vast majority of cases, especially among livestock complex "like birds and mammals, what happens during mating, but some simpler animals do not mate. For example, sperm output and coral eggs in water and rely on water currents to mix to form offspring.

Reproducing Reproduction $92.48 "A fine collection of articles at the cutting edge of reproductive anthropology."–Signs "Like all good collections organized around a topic of great breadth, Reproducing Reproduction touches on a range of provocative issues without losing sight of the central ideas that connect them."–Women’s Review of Books Focusing on the key themes of power, kinship, and technological innovation, this volume offers a set of carefully argued empirical studies that emphasize the importance of ethnographic method, as well as anthropological theory, to current debates about the reproductive processes of humans, animals, and plants. In chapters on abortion, assisted conception, biodiversity conservation, artificial life sciences, adoption, intellectual property, and prenatal screening, Reproducing Reproduction contends that ideologies of class, nation, health, gender, nature, and kinship have reproductive models at their core. |

Reproductions of Reproduction $7.48 Reproductions of Reproduction is about the loss of the paternal metaphor and how the ensuing scramble to relocate it has set off a series of representational crises. Examining the sudden popularity of such figures as cyborgs, bodybuilders, and vampires; shifts in legislation about abortion, paternity and copyright; the transition to a digital-based society; the emergence of lesbian and gay studies; the growing infatuation with hyper-realistic patterns in television, this book argues that each of these manifestations represents an attempt to resituate the paternal metaphor. While this shift affects our understandings of everything from narratives to law to time, it also suggests a point of potential political intervention, allowing us to identify the full implications of these changes. Judith Roof is Associate Professor of English at Indiana University and author A Lure of Knowledge. |

Reproduction Rights $18.48 If you’re the legal counsel of Gerard Jerome, inventor par excellence and narcissist extraordinaire, you know you have your professional and philosophical hands full. How do you possibly win the copyright of your client’s illegally cloned son, especially when his vindictive ex-wife proves to be an irresistibly seductive adversary? But that’s just the beginning of your problems-what do you do when your client is murdered, and you become the likeliest suspect? Reproduction Rights is the humorous and highly entertaining story of an ethically-challenged lawyer attempting to protect the interests of Gerard Jerome, scientific genius and dominant force in world commerce. When Jerome is covertly cloned by his ex-wife the stage is set for a wild battle over the legal ownership of his genetic identity, fought in the U.S. Supreme Court, on a Micronesian island filled with genetic horrors, in a secret installation in the Gobi desert, and in a high-rise fortress in the heart of New York City. The winner’s prize? An untold fortune contained in the holdings of the multi-billion dollar Jerome Enterprises! |

Educational Policy and Social Reproduction $152.48 This book takes a theoretically informed look at British education policy over the last sixty years when secondary schooling for all children became an established fact for the first time. Comprehensive schools largely replaced a system based on academic selection. Now, under choice and competition policies, all schools are subject to the rigors of local education markets. What impact did each of these successive policy frameworks have on structures of opportunities for families and their children? How and to what extent was the experience of secondary school students shaped and what influenced the qualifications they obtained and their life chances after schooling? The authors locate their work within two broad strands in the sociology of education. Basil Bernstein’s work on the realization of power and control in and through pedagogic discourse and social reproduction provides a theoretical framework for exploring the character of and continuities and change in education and training policies. The book is an important contribution to debates about the extent to which education is a force for change in class divided societies. The authors also set out to re-establish social class at the center of educational analysis at a time when emphasis has been on identity and identity formation, arguing for their interdependence. This book will be an important resource for students, policy analysts and policymakers wishing to think through and understand the longer term impact of programmes that have shaped secondary schooling in Britain and elsewhere. |

Controlling Reproduction $5.48 Few topics stir stronger interest than birth control and abortion. Divisive opinions abound. This informative, detailed text contains 39 writings on the history of reproduction in the U.S. The historical path of reproduction control is viewed in the contexts of politics, law, medicine, sexuality, business, and social change. Because birth control has been construed chiefly as a female responsibility, Controlling Reproduction stresses the centrality of gender in the history of reproduction and explores how and why reproduction-as a biological, social, and economic function-became a gender-assigned issue. Controlling Reproduction also includes some of the most significant debates currently guiding the study of reproduction. Students will find this work a powerful, enlightening source on women’s issues and the history of birth control in the United States. |

A Guide to Reproduction $9.98 Reproduction plays a huge part in many people’s lives, but often little is understood about the biological processes involved and the larger impact of reproductive choices. This book offers an accessible, comprehensive introduction to this fascinating subject. Irina Pollard takes a unique, interdisciplinary perspective, describing in detail the biology of human reproduction, but also covering in depth the impact of procreational behavior on human social structures, the environment, and health. This compelling and authoritative account is the first to draw together in a single volume these two disparate yet intimately connected strands of the story of human reproduction. The book covers fertility and infertility, sexual behavior and pheromones, sperm creation, maternal physiology during pregnancy, fetal development, the biology of breast feeding, and the impact of parental behavior on the physiology of the newborn, as well as population dynamics, artificial control of fertility, the AIDS epidemic, the effects of nutrition and exercise on reproductive behavior, and the causes of birth defects, including abuse of substances such as nicotine, alcohol, and caffeine. This book is an ideal text for undergraduate and graduate students studying biology, medicine, anthropology, human ecology, population dynamics, and public health. It is also an engrossing and enlightening source of information for a wide range of general readers including prospective parents, pregnant mothers, teenagers, and anyone wishing a concise, up-to-date review of human reproductive biology. |

Art in Reproduction $59.98 Works of art have always been reproduced: not necessarily cleverly, not necessarily cleanly, and often with an eye toward profit. Those concerned with this important aspect of the art world have often paid attention to how these reproductions have helped to form the reputations of artists and their works, while the reproductions themselves remain relatively unexamined. In the nineteenth century new graphic techniques, the legal development of copyright, and the rise of the art market and art publishing resulted in a wide distribution of printed reproductions to the general public. Art in Reproduction examines the cultural meaning of artistic reproduction in a refreshingly new context through its consideration of how three nineteenth-century artists—Ary Scheffer, Jozef IsraĆ«ls, and Lawrence Alma-Tadema—managed the reproduction of their own work. In addition to careful attention to the quality of their printed proofs, these artists shared a burgeoning interest in copyright procedure and a keen interest in profit—writing the next chapter in this changing artistic culture of replication, authenticity, and commodity. |

The Reproduction of Mothering was chosen by Contemporary Sociology as one of the ten most influential books of the past twenty-five years. Reproduction in Mammals (Reproduction in Mammals Series) $101.48 Reproduction in Mammals is intended to meet the needs of undergraduates reading zoology, biology, biochemistry, physiology, medicine, veterinary science and agriculture, and to be a source of information for advanced students and research workers. It is published as a series of small textbooks dealing with all major aspects of mammalian reproduction. Each of the component books is designed to cover independently fairly distinct subdivisions of the subject, so that readers can select texts relevant to their particular interests and needs. This volume consists of a series of thought-provoking essays by people with a number of very different backgrounds, including biology, comparative anatomy, psychology, psychiatry and moral philosophy. They discuss the physiology mechanisms, adaptive significance, clinical picture and social impact of a variety of patterns of human sexual behaviour, thereby providing a balanced and informative account of a highly sensitive and emotive subject. |

Reproduction in Mammals $44.98 In this, our second edition of Reproduction in Mammals, we are responding to numerous requests for a more recent and rather more detailed treatment of the subject. The first edition was accorded an excellent reception, but the Books 1 to 5 were written twelve years ago and inevitably there have been advances on many fronts since then. As before, the manner of presentation is intended to make the subject matter interesting to read and readily comprehensible to undergraduates in the biological sciences, and yet have sufficient depth to provide a valued source of information to graduates engaged in both teaching and research. Our authors have been selected from among the best known in their respective fields. Book 4 pays particular attention to genetic, environmental, behavioural and immunological mechanisms that can contribute to an animal’s overall reproductive fitness, through which natural selection must ultimately operate. |
